Many teachers face moments of heightened emotion and aren’t sure how to respond — worried that the wrong word will make things worse, or that staying calm won’t be enough. This session bridges that gap. Rather than dwelling on theory, we focus on the practical, research-informed responses that help — the ways of staying regulated yourself, de-escalating with care, and creating an environment where pupils feel safe enough to settle.
Delivered by a specialist who works in successful inclusive settings, the session is hands-on and grounded in real classroom examples. We explore what co-regulation actually looks like in practice, how to read the early signs of escalation, and how to respond relationally — in ways that protect dignity, build trust and bring the pupil back into the room.
Staff leave with a shared language for behaviour and regulation, and a toolkit they can use immediately: from simple calming routines and scripts for difficult moments, to strategies for repairing relationships afterwards and keeping the classroom emotionally safe for everyone.
A mix of input, group discussion and practical activity. We tailor examples to your phase and context, and every delegate receives a follow-up resource pack.
